Obituary for Anna Maria Besseghini (Marchetti)

Anna Maria (Marchetti) Besseghini 85, formerly of Wealthy Avenue in Pittsfield died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Chandler, Arizona on Sunday, May 21.

Born in Pittsfield, on February 22, 1938, daughter of Giacomo (Jack) Marchetti and Maria (Mary) Testi Marchetti, she graduated from Saint Joseph’s High School and received an Associate's Degree in Secretarial Sciences from Bryant College.

She met her beloved husband of 59 years, Pierino Aldino (Dino) Besseghini at the Pine Brook Club in Cheshire in 1959 and they were married on May 30, 1963 at Mt. Carmel Church in Pittsfield. He predeceased her on November 9, 2022.

After graduating from Bryant, Anna was employed as a secretary at General Electric in Pittsfield. During that time she worked in Voltage Regulator Engineering and was the 1959 GEAA Queen. In 1963, she and Dino moved to New Britain, CT, for a brief time, before returning to Pittsfield. Anna was a stay at home mom with her daughters, Lisa and Diana, until she returned to work at GE in 1969. She was employed as a secretary at the First Agricultural Bank from 1972 to 1976. From 1976 until her retirement, Anna was employed as secretary at GE – in various business units, including transformers and naval ordnance– and GE’s successor companies. She retired from Lockheed Martin in 1995.

Anna was a devoted wife, mother to Lisa and Diana, and grandmother to Eric Winjum. She loved going to Tanglewood, to the theater, and at Christmastime her decorated home was a wonder to behold. She also shared her husband’s love of travel, whether it was to Italy, Spain, cruising the Baltic, or the safari in Africa they took for their 50th anniversary. When Dino took up skiing, she quickly followed him onto the slopes, taking lessons at Bousquet. She learned to golf in her 70’s and enjoyed being on the golf course with Dino, their daughter, Diana, and their grandson, Eric.

Anna was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her brother, Louis J. Marchetti, and niece, Ivana Besseghini Redaelli of Chuiro, Province of Sondrio, Italy. She leaves two daughters, Diana Besseghini of Chandler, AZ and Lisa Besseghini Winjum (Peter Winjum) of Silver Spring, MD, a grandson, Eric K.
