1/6/2023 – Obituary for Charles Kelly

With loving regard, the Kelly family of Clarksburg is saying goodbye to the Patriarch of our family Charles F. Kelly. Charles passed away on January 5, 2023, at Berkshire Medical Center. He was born in North Adams, MA the son of William J. Kelly and Anne E. Doran Kelly.
He graduated from Drury High School in 1952. He was a member of Pro Merito Society and Nu Sigma at Drury High School; and Vice President of the Class of 1952. He was a graduate of the Sprague Electric Company Tool and Die Maker Course. He worked as a Machinist/Tool & Die Maker for over 45 years.
Charles was also a Real Estate Broker in Massachusetts and New York State. He worked for Milanesi Real Estate and Steeple View Reality for many years. While at Drury High School he was a 3-Sport Athlete. Where he was named to the All Berkshire Team in Football and played Semi-Pro for the Pittsfield Golden Bears. He was the brains of the operations at the Center Position. At only 5 foot 7 and 150 pounds he used technique, guile, agility, and football smarts to anchor the Offensive Line.
Charles also played Semi-Pro baseball for the North Adams Merchants as the team’s 2nd baseman. He was a long-time member of St. Francis Assisi Church. He worked for many years for the various Catholic Charities with the highlight being a member of the Adoration Chapel.
He coached Little League and Babe Ruth Base Ball and many recreational YMCA and Clarksburg School Basketball Teams that his two sons played for. He was a long-time member of Waubeeka Golf Course in Williamstown. He was a low handicap golfer who could give the anyone a run for their money!
He was a member of the Board of Assessors in Clarksburg. Charles also served eight years with the Massachusetts National Guard as member of the 60 Millimeter Mortar Platoon. Charles quickly rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He loved to attend Sports events with his Children and Grand Children. He lived with his wife Lucille Cote Kelly whom he married on September 19, 1959. They had a very loving marriage of 63 years. They raised their three children on Middle Road in Clarksburg creating wonderful memories.
He loved his trips to Cape Cod and Maine with his children. After retiring from Sprague Electric, he enjoyed his trips to Florida, Bermuda, and especially his two trips to Ireland. He found time for a good Chicken Parm and a Bacon Cheeseburger with a Coke.
He is survived by his wife Lucille of 63 years and his Daughter Lisa McCosh and her husband Brian. His son Patrick and his wife Mary Ellen of Templeton, MA; and his son Kevin and wife LeeAnne of Baldwinville, MA. He was known as “Papa Charley” to his six grandchildren Benjamin and Megan McCosh; Courtney and Connor; and Sean and Madeline Kelly.
He leaves his sister Nancy Lanois and her husband Francis. His sister-in-law and brother-in-law Claire and Albert Barcomb; his sister-in -law Clarice Morrissey; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers Francis and William Kelly. The family would like to give a special thank you to Charles and Donna Mulcahy and Craig Ferris who were a big aid to Charles and Lucille over the last several years.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday January 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. A calling hour will take place on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA.
