Obituary for Harry E. Sherman Jr.

Harry E. Sherman, Jr.
December 12, 1936-August 8, 2022

Harry E. Sherman, Jr. age 85, of Williamstown, died at home Monday, August 8, 2022, following several years of declining health. His parents, Harry, Sr. and Marjorie (O'Dell) Sherman predeceased him in Bethel, CT. Harry graduated from Somers Central School in Somers, New York where he was an All-Star Athlete, especially skilled in baseball. Though he didn't have a college degree, he was well educated, taking spare-time courses at U-Conn, U-Bridgeport, and the Institute of Design and Construction, specializing in mechanical design. Harry worked for Gar Kenyon, Corp where he received awards for his work. When the company consolidated with a firm in New Haven, CT, he and his wife, Sybil (Meyer) decided it was time to move out of the NYC suburban area where they were living in Carmel, NY and move to the Berkshires. That move included work for Pittsfield Pipers, Jack Watson Construction, Ashley Swift and Sons, and finally retiring from Adams Heating and Plumbing. He worked as a mechanical designer, estimator, and project manager.
In his younger years, he continued to use his athletic energy bowling in leagues in both NYS and at the North Adams Bowl. He was a Little League Coach and Cub Scout Leader while living in Carmel. In Williamstown, he worked for a while with the T-Ball team. In addition, he was the liaison between the Williamstown First United Methodist Church and the Williamstown Day Care Center and he was instrumental in the building of the Minister's house on Green River Road in Williamstown. As a member of the Williamstown Lion's Club he served in executive positions as Recording Secretary, member of the Scholarship Committee and a stint as President of the Club.
Survivors include his wife of almost 64 years, Sybil, sons Glenn (wife Jeannie), Scott (friend Stacie), and Marc (friend Cass), Sisters: Marjorie Sherman, Linda Clapp (husband Charles) and Judith Schewe. Also, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to dear friends and neighbors during this difficult time. Since the family is far-flung, a private burial and Celebration of a Life Well Lived will be held at future date. To add to the Book of Memories, please visit flynndagnolifuneralhomes.com.
